Meet Omar

The Artist

Omar is a unique man who loves to tell stories, share his work and experiences, and make beautifully creative and carefully designed traditional lamps. He and his son had been working together on the crafts and his wife and daughters helping to sell their products. The whole family has put effort into this unique tradition.

The History

Omar learned his craft from an old Jewish Moroccan man when he was a young boy. He has been creating lamps fro more than 40 years. He passed this trade knowledge to his son who helps him today with the hammering and cutting of the materials. Together they make something that you don’t find very many replications of in Chefchaouen.

The Place

Omar’s shop is near the central square in the Old City of Chefchaouen near the Jewish Quarter door.
